Yüksel is among the contractors on TANAP

YÜKSEL İNŞAAT SIGNS TURKEY’S LARGEST-SCALE NATURAL GAS PIPELINE PROJECT

On 23 December 2014, Yüksel İnşaat signed contract concerning the construction TANAP (Trans-Anatolia Natural Gas Pipeline Project), one of the largest energy infrastructure projects in Turkey. The second of the first three packages of the tender for the pipeline to carry Azerbaijani natural gas to Turkey will be carried out by a consortium comprising Sicim (Italy), Yüksel (Turkey) and Akkord (Azerbaijan). The scope of the USD 540 million contract covers the construction of a 450 km-long pipeline 56 inches in diameter. The project is planned to be completed in 36 months.

Starting at the Georgian border and running through Turkey transversely on an east-west axis, the TANAP will be connected to the TAP (Trans Adriatic Pipeline) on the Greek border. Approximately 1,900 km in length, this pipeline is the largest-scale pipeline project of Turkey. The first gas flow through the TANAP will take place in 2018. The aim is to gradually increase the annual capacity from 16 billion m3 in 2020 gradually to 23 billion and 31 billion m3 by 2026.

As a company with sound engineering and construction experience gained from large-scale water conveyance lines built in Saudi Arabia since the early ’80s, Yüksel is proud to be able to reflect this competence on such a significant project in Turkey. Yüksel attaches great importance to the TANAP since it is the largest project it will carry out in oil and gas industry.

What is TANAP?

The Trans Anatolia Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) Project is a gigantic scale pipeline project planned to transport natural gas to be produced in the Shahdeniz II region to Europe through Turkey. Designed with the objective of meeting the natural gas needs of Turkey and Europe and to diversify the gas resources of the region, the project was first brought up at the 3rd Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum organized in Istanbul on 17 November 2011. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the governments of Turkey and Azerbaijan on 26 December 2011. On 26 June 2012, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and former Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed the agreement concerning the construction of the pipeline.
