The construction of Ankaray Light Rail Mass Transit System
which is a viable contemporary solution to the transportation problem of the
expanding capital, Ankara, was carried out by Yüksel Construction and Bayındır
Construction J.V. who realized the civil works as a double track of 8.7 km.
of railway between Dikimevi and Sögütözü. Electro- mechanical works were implemented
by Siemens, Breda, AEG and Simko firms. The project included 2,058 m. of bored
tunnel, 5,922 m. of cut and covered tunnel, 355 m. at grade and 11 stations.
During these construction works 9,915 piling, 152,500 m³ of concreting, 16,700
tons of reinforcement work was completed. In this project 42,457 m. of track
was laid, 1,257,000 m³ of excavation and 386,000 m³ of filling was realized.
The daily passenger capacity is 350,000 for Ankaray and 11 trains are operational
for 18 hours a day. These trains reach the final point within 17 minutes after
departure. Yüksel is proud to have completed this project which is the first
ever application of its kind in Ankara.
