Power generation starts at Kandil Dam

Constructed by Yüksel İnşaat on Ceyhan River, the Kandil Dam and HEPP has been completed.

As the third part of the Kandil Power Group Projects, undertaken by Yüksel İnşaat on Ceyhan River, the Kandil Dam and HEPP has been completed. Started to be constructed in September 2009, the Dam has started to hold water on 8 January 2013. Upon the completed filling of the dam reservoir of 420 million m³ on 18 August, the water was released toward the energy tunnel. The water supply of the energy tunnel was carried out stepwise. As of 1 September, the 9.5 km long tunnel finally reached its full capacity.

The substantial completion of the HEPP has been made by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works and by the Ministry of Energy on 25 September and 25 October, respectively. The HEPP started to generate power with an installed capacity of 206.58 megawatt (MW). Upon the completion of this last ring, the Kandil Power Group Projects, located on Ceyhan River, one of the most efficient basins in terms of power generation, will meet 35% of the electricity need of Kahramanmaraş Province.
